Some background from Eliana about the 1st single “Aquel Zuliano:
When Renato Aguirre received the terrible news of the sudden passing of his older brother Ricardo after a tragic car accident on November 8, 1969, he was four days away from his 23rd birthday. During his seven-year musical career, Renato had accompanied his brother in all of his musical endeavors, with the famous groups Cardenales del Éxito and the Conjunto Saladillo originally from Maracaibo, Venezuela. Ricardo was Renato’s mentor, his idol, the fourth child in a family of seven.

This devastating news, received when Renato was barely out of adolescence, marked him for the rest of his life, locked him in an eternal haze of nostalgia where he became determined to bring the cuatro of his late brother and companion to stages all over the world -- the same cuatro his brother had left under Renato’s window moments before he died. Renato wrote “Aquel Zuliano” in honour of his brother Ricardo, who was no other than the father of the “gaita zuliana”, a Venezuelan folkloric style popular during the Christmas season.
